Script for student summit.

Some of the things that I valued and got out of doing the Flat Classroom Project came form different aspect of the work we did.
Collaboration- I was disappointed with the amount of collaboration on the wiki project. I was very excited and looked forward to working with others on the project, but it never happened. I learned that sometimes others will be busy and not able to communicate that they can't help, and that is something that you cant control.

Digital Tools and Skills- I learned how to use tools like Windows Movie Maker to create a video and I am able to put that knowledge to use in other projects in school. There were new tools like this blog, that I learned can be used to voice an opinion on things and can be used to communicate as well. I also learned about tools like Evernote that can be used to take notes electronically from almost any device. Other tools we used included Google Docs, to create a master list of all of our blogs and emails, so any of us could communicate outside of class if needed.

Challenge- The most challenging aspect of this project was that on the wiki project, I was all alone. My flatten-er was Workflow Software in Current News. It felt hard enough to begin with just to find the information, but to make the section of the wiki on my own didn't help.

The thing I enjoyed most was the outsource clip. I liked that someone was depending on me for something, and that I could help them out by simply making a video and sending it to them.

If I were to make any changes to the project, I would change the outsource clips. Although they were fun, some students never got their clips or nobody took the responsibility to record it for them. These students were left with no fall back, and most likely lost
points because of this.

Keynote Question Answers

Flat Classroom Keynote Video Questions- Answered
This post is in reply to a video we watched in class about how technology has changed the world we live in today. You can watch the video here.

Questions:
  • What technology tools do you use for fun that can be used in education to communicate and collaborate?
  • How are the 21st Century Skills that digital natives possess and educators promote being addressed in the Flat Classroom project you are in?
  • In what ways do the communication and collaboration experiences that you are using in your Flat Classroom project prepare you for your future?
  • How can you use your existing communication and collaboration skills, as well as your expectations of immediate responses, to improve your participation in your Flat Classroom project?
  • Responses:
I use Skype to talk while playing video games, and also to work on a project from home with group members at their homes. Another program that can be used is TeamSpeak, which I also use when gaming. TeamSpeak allows for people to be in a large call, and then separate into channels or teams. You also have the ability to lock these with password protection, to keep players from the other team hearing what you say. This process works kind of like a Walkie-Talkie, but can be better protected.

We are taught to use only creative commons work and content, and to site our sources. During the project we must give credit to those whose content we use. They have taught me how to be safe on the internet and how to know when to give away certain amounts of information. I have also learned to give credit to people whose content I use, even when the content is found in creative commons.

As well as using others work, I have learned how to connect with people safely. I can connect with people and know that they expect me to respond as soon as I can. I will be able to use the tools I have learned about in future jobs or school projects. Not only have I learned of these tools, but how to use them more effectively.

I will respect others and understand their expectations of my immediate response, and do my best to meet those expectations. I will also accept that others may not always be able to respond immediately and I will respect them and be patient with them.
